Aims of the Subject
- To create and sustain a culture of "reading to learn" and "learning to read" through our school-based PLP-R/W Programme in KS1 and KIP in KS2. Reading across the curriculum is conducted at each level to promote cross-subject learning, along with national security education and values education.
- To develop a feasible and consistent English curriculum by strengthening students' basic English competencies, enhancing the four language skills, integrating the nine generic skills, and promoting values and attitudes through our school-based teaching plans, unit booklets, English activities, and e-learning resources.
- To promote creative writing through our school-based writing booklets and participation in various writing competitions.
- To support assessment for learning by including self-assessments and peer assessments in our school-based curriculum.
- To arouse pupils' interest in English through various activities, such as games on English Wednesdays, a Halloween party at recess, the LKK Gazette, and other co-curricular activities.
- To provide an authentic language environment by having English Wednesdays morning assemblies, English recess activities, lunch activities, and co-curricular activities.
- To enhance pupils' speaking abilities by having 1-minute talks in class (P.3-6), P.1 phonics class, drama class during multi-intelligence sessions, P.6 Little Orator Class, P.6 interview class, coaching of English ambassadors, and participation in the Speech Festival.
- To promote self-directed learning using IT/e-platforms and the home reading program "Joy to Reading Galaxy."
